The cluster pages link back to the pillar, and to each other when relevant. Crawl depth — the number of clicks required to reach a page from the homepage — directly impacts how quickly search engines discover and re-index content. Pages buried at crawl depth 5 or deeper are crawled infrequently, which means new content on those pages takes longer to rank and existing content is slower to be refreshed in search indexes. The general rule: every important page should be reachable within 3 clicks from the homepage. AI engines use similar depth-and-link signals to determine page importance.
